A Year's Embrace: Finding Stillness & Light Within

Dear ones,

As this year draws to a close, my heart is overflowing with gratitude for each and every one of you. Thank you for showing up on your mats, for sharing your energy, and for making our community a place of true connection and growth. Your dedication to your practice is an inspiration, and it is a true privilege to guide you on this journey.

Celestial reflections: the Full Moon and the Solstice

December brings two profound moments of cosmic energy that invite us into a deep state of grounding and centring: the Gemini Full Moon and the Winter Solstice.

The Gemini Full Moon illuminates our internal dialogue. It’s an invitation to notice the two sides of our mind: the busy thought-chatter and the deep inner wisdom. Use this energy to release mental clutter, miscommunications, or self-limiting stories that no longer serve you.

The Winter Solstice marks the longest night and the return of the light. It is a moment of profound stillness, urging us to turn inward and conserve our energy, allowing the body and mind to rest and repair.

This season is perfect for cultivating a deep, positive internal dialogue that naturally extends outward, manifesting peace and positivity in your world.

Rituals and affirmation prompts

FocusSimple ritualAffirmation
ReleasingFull Moon journaling. Write down all the thoughts, fears or old stories you are ready to let go of. Tear up the page (or burn it safely) as a symbolic release.I release the need to judge myself and others. I am safe to let go of what no longer serves my highest good.
GroundingStillness practice. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Sit comfortably, feet flat on the floor, and listen to the sounds of your body: your breath, your heartbeat. Feel your connection to the Earth.I am centred. I am connected. I am deeply rooted in this moment.
CentringPositive dialogue. Write a loving, encouraging letter to yourself, acknowledging your progress this year. Re-read it whenever you hear a negative inner voice. My internal dialogue is kind and compassionate. The peace within me creates peace in my world.

Yogic wisdom: creating inner space

The yogic concept of Saucha (purity or cleanliness) is not just about keeping the body clean, but about clearing the internal space, the mind and heart, so that truth can shine through.

When the mind is purified, a positive internal dialogue is created, and this naturally leads to a positive experience of the external world.

This is the essence of manifestation: clearing the way (releasing) so that the light within (centring and stillness) can radiate outward and attract what is truly meant for you.

Suggested practice: the art of stillness

This season, focus less on intense effort and more on profound presence.

  • Practice: prioritise restorative poses like Supta Baddha Konasana (Reclined Bound Angle) and Viparita Karani (Legs-Up-The-Wall) for 10–15 minutes. These poses are grounding and ask you to embrace stillness, allowing the nervous system to rest and reset.
  • Breath: add a daily practice of diaphragmatic (belly) breathing. Inhale deeply, feeling your belly rise, and exhale completely. This simple breath is the most powerful tool for immediate centring and warmth.

Nourishment for the cold and for digestion

To support your body’s need for warmth and healthy digestion (Agni) during this cosy, heavier season:

  • Warmth and digestion: enjoy a mug of lemon, ginger and honey tea. Ginger is a wonderful warming herb and digestive aid, lemon aids cleansing, and honey soothes the throat.
  • Hydration: choose warm drinks over ice-cold ones to conserve internal heat and support your digestive fire.

Planting seeds: setting your intention (Sankalpa)

As we embrace the deep stillness of the Solstice, the most important work we can do is turn our attention inward. This quiet time is the perfect opportunity to contemplate your Sankalpa, a heartfelt intention rooted in your highest truth.

Your Sankalpa is not a to-do list; it is a declaration of the person you already are, waiting to fully manifest. When we ground ourselves in stillness, we create fertile ground for these seeds of intention to grow.

How to plant your Sankalpa:

  1. Reflect and centre. Take five minutes of seated meditation. Ask yourself: “What quality do I need to embody to live my most authentic life?” (for example peace, confidence or compassion).
  2. Formulate. State your intention in the present tense, as if it is already true. Instead of “I will be more patient”, try “I am patient and calm in every situation.”
  3. Seal it. Hold your Sankalpa gently in your heart during your final Savasana of the year, or before drifting off to sleep. Trust that the stillness of winter will nourish this intention and allow it to manifest in the world around you.

The positive internal dialogue you cultivate now, in this quiet, sacred space, will become the reality you step into in the New Year.

We look forward to sharing the light of the new year with you on the mat.

With deep love, gratitude and winter blessings,

Elizaine
